Having a Blast!

For my games of Missile Threat, I thought I'd make some bomb blasts, they are not needed to play the game.

It would just look cool!

I decided to make two different types,

-Single bomb blast

-Multiple bomb blasts

NEEDED!

So, you will need. . .

-3/4 washers

-Aluminium wire

-Sand/texturing

-Clump foliage

-Glue gun

-Super glue

-Vallejo Paint (not essential, but gives you idea of colours I used)

Firstly . . .

To start with, Glue some paper to one side of the washer to covour the hole. When dry, cut a piece of aluminium wire (around an inch long) and glue into the hole onto the paper and pack out area around it with the sand/texturing.

And then . . .

Using the glue gun, covour the aluminium rods with clump foliage. Once covoured I give the clump foliage a good dose of super glue, this helps bond it all together and makes it more durable.

The multi-bomb blasts were done pretty much the same, except I mounted 4 stems on to a wooden base.

WARNING! When putting the super glue on the clump foliage, I strongly recommend wearing gloves and do it in a well ventilated area.

Any base area that is not covoured in clump foliage, just glue some sand/texturing on.

Then undercoat.

And Finally . . .

I paint the whole thing in 'Heavy Ochre' then give the ground area a wash of Agrax Earthshade (Games Workshop).
The whole thing gets a drybrush of 'Dark Sand'.
The Dust plumes then get a Drybrush of 'Pale Sand'.

Making Missiles

For my games of Missile Threat, rather than using counters for missiles, I thought I'd make them.

I have opted for five different types,

-IR Seeking missiles

-Radar guilded missiles

-Air to ground missiles

-Anti ship missiles

-SAM Missiles

NEEDED!

So, you will need. . .

-Green stuff.

-0.6mm (or close to) brass wire.

-Pipe cleaners.

-Plastic rod in 1mm 1.3mm and 1.5mm sizes.

-Flying stands (I use the Medium Dropzone Commander ones)

-Vallejo Paint (not essential, but gives you idea of colours I used)

Firstly . . .

To start with, make some small balls of green stuff, put a small hole in the greenstuff, put another one opposite, and one on the underside.
The holes are for,

Once the green stuff has set I mount it on brass rod. This also makes it easier to hold when painting.

IR Seeking Missiles

Using 1mm plastic rod, cut a length about 6-7mm long and make a point at one end.
Glue into the green stuff and undercoat.

Paint missile 'Silver Grey' with a 'Carmine Red' nosecone.

Radar Guilded Missiles

Using 1mm plastic rod, cut a length about 12-14mm long and make a point at one end.
Glue into green stuff and undercoat.

Paint missile 'Silver Grey' with a 'Heavy Charcoal' nosecone.

Air-to-Ground Missiles

Using 1.3mm plastic rod, cut a length about 6-7mm long and make a point at one end.
Glue into green stuff and undercoat.

Paint missile 'Refractive Green' with a 'Heavy Charcoal' nosecone.

Anti-Ship Missiles

Using 1.5mm plastic rod, cut a length about 7-8mm long and make a point at one end.
Glue into green stuff and undercoat.

Paint missile 'Field Blue' with a 'Silver Grey' nosecone.

SAM Missiles

Using 1mm plastic rod, cut a length about 6-7mm long and make a point at one end.
Glue into green stuff and undercoat.

Paint missile 'Silver Grey' with a 'Ultramarine' nosecone.

Missile Afterburner

Paint whole blob 'German Yellow' then paint fire like streaks with 'Amaranth Red'

Finishing . . .

Clip off of brass rod (but leave a mm or two)
then glue into flying base (into a drilled hole)

All missiles I glued on level except the SAM that I glued at an angle, then glue pipe cleaner to rear for smoke trail.

 Iran-Iraq Campaign

1981

With each of the four missions tried out, we thought it was time to play a campaign.

With the exception of having the aircraft miniatures and a gaming area, setting up a campaign is pretty simple, you only need to roll for pilot roster.

IRAQ

Fixed-Wing pilots

Poor Skill: 25 pilots
Average Skill: 19 pilots
Competant Skill: 15 pilots
Veteran Skill: 6 pilots

Helo pilots

Average Skill: 23 pilots
Competant Skill: 15 pilots
Veteran Skill: 11 pilots

IRAN

Fixed-Wing pilots

Average Skill: 24 pilots
Competant Skill: 13 pilots
Veteran Skill: 13 pilots

Helo pilots

Average Skill: 23 pilots
Competant Skill: 20 pilots
Veteran Skill: 17 pilots

The campaign will be 10 turns long.

Each game we will roll a D6, on a 1-4 the Iraqi player is the Attacker, 5-6 the Iranian player is the Attacker.

Game size will be determined by rolling 2D6
2: 100pts
3-4: 150pts
5-6: 200pts
7-8: 250pts
9-10: 300pts
